Chicken Wings in BBQ Sauce Print friendly page
Use BBQ Accessory set - 3903

If you like tasty, sticky and tender chicken wings then do try this recipe for your next barbeque. I have suggested 4 wings per person but this is quite generous so you can reduce the number per serving as required. Allow at least 2 hours for the wings to marinate in the sauce.

Serves 4

Sauce

2 tablespoons olive oil
1 onion, grated
1 tablespoon tomato purée
4 tablespoons tomato ketchup
2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
2 tablespoons Demerara sugar
2 tablespoons runny honey
2 teaspoons English mustard
2 tablespoons Worcester sauce
150ml ( ¼ pt ) water

16 chicken wings

Pour the oil into a frying pan and heat gently. Add the onion and fry gently until softened but not browned.

Add the tomato purée, ketchup, vinegar, sugar, honey, mustard, Worcester sauce and water and stir together well.

Cook over a gentle heat for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Remove the pan from the heat and allow the mixture to cool.

Arrange the chicken wings in a large dish.

Pour the sauce over the wings, turning them over and over so that they are fully coated. Cover the dish with cling film and place in the refrigerator for at least two hours to marinate.

Remove the chicken wings from the sauce, reserving the sauce, and transfer to the heated barbeque. Cook slowly over a medium heat until the wings are fully cooked, turning them over frequently to ensure they cook evenly. Brush the wings with the remaining sauce as they are cooking. The wings will take approximately 30 – 40 minutes to cook but make sure they are completely cooked before serving.

Serve with a mixed salad and crusty bread.
